John Washington III Calls for an Independent Citizens' Justice Review Process So the People Can Hold Government Accountable

John Washington III, a candidate for president in 2028, posed the question directly: what happens when the people responsible for enforcing the law are the ones accused of breaking it? "When a citizen has evidence of wrongdoing by a government official, but the district attorney refuses to pursue the case, where does that citizen turn?" he wrote. "Who holds the district attorney accountable? Who investigates the investigators? And who protects the people when the system refuses to act?"

John Washington III called for an independent pathway to justice that does not depend entirely on the approval of the same government institutions being challenged. The American people, he wrote, should have the legal right to present credible evidence of criminal wrongdoing to an independent authority, especially when conflicts of interest may exist, and that authority should be empowered to review complaints, investigate where warranted and pursue appropriate legal action while protecting everyone's constitutional rights.

"Justice should never depend on someone's political connections, government position, wealth, or influence," John Washington III wrote. He argued that government derives its authority from the people and that the justice system exists to serve the people, not to protect government officials from accountability.

"I believe it's time to have a serious national conversation about establishing an independent citizens' justice review process," John Washington III wrote. "Because if the people cannot hold their government accountable, who is the government truly serving?" He closed the statement: "QUESTION THE SYSTEM. DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY. PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF THE PEOPLE."
