Red Flag Parking Restrictions Are Not in Effect in Los Angeles on Sunday, the Fire Department Says (Los Angeles Sunset News)

Red Flag parking restrictions are not in effect in the City of Los Angeles on Sunday, November 1, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department's Red Flag status page, which carried that notice on Sunday morning. The restrictions, when they are declared, prohibit parking in posted areas inside the city's Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones so fire engines can reach hillside neighborhoods, and illegally parked vehicles are towed.

The city declares a Red Flag Day when weather conditions make a fast-moving brush fire extremely likely — the department defines those conditions as wind speeds of 25 miles per hour or more with humidity of 15 percent or less. Sunday brought neither: the station's live weather feed showed Los Angeles at about 69 degrees under clearing skies on Sunday afternoon, after a rainy start to the day.

The dry pattern holds all week on the station feed: Monday is dry with a high near 75, Tuesday — Election Day — is dry near 74, and temperatures climb through the week to the low 80s by Saturday, with no rain in the daily outlook. The Fire Department's status can change with conditions, and residents in hillside areas can check the current flag status at lafd.org before parking on narrow streets.
