Stock Futures Rise as Election Week Opens With Earnings, a Jobs Report and Tuesday's Midterms Ahead

U.S. stock futures edged higher early Monday as November trading began, with Dow futures up about 0.3 percent and S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 futures each up roughly 0.4 percent in the market reporting read by this desk, after a down week marked by selling in technology and artificial-intelligence shares. One market tally put Nasdaq 100 futures up 0.84 percent, the S&P 500 up 0.43 percent and the Dow up 0.29 percent as of 1:38 a.m. Eastern on Monday.

The week's calendar is the story: Apple and Palantir report earnings after Monday's close, voters decide the midterm elections on Tuesday, and the October jobs report arrives Friday, with economists polled expecting a gain of about 55,000 jobs. ISM manufacturing and services data and remarks from several Federal Reserve officials round out the schedule.

For Los Angeles readers the market week and the election week are the same week: California voters decide 14 statewide propositions on Tuesday alongside the congressional midterms, and Los Angeles County vote centers are open Monday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the final day of early voting before Election Day.
